Fourth of July 2013

Well, we've had better holidays. Sophie started acting sick the weekend before the Fourth. We went to the doctor Monday and she had a little cold and an eye infection in her right eye. It's all goopy and occasionally she wakes up with her eye cemented shut. The doctor prescribed us some eye drops, but unfortunately they are super thick so its tricky getting them actually in her eye. Now Daniel and I are both sick and we've been spending this whole holiday weekend trying to find relief for our stuffy noses, coughs, and sore throats. Anyways, before that all started we went to our traditional Driggs Fireworks show. We got there early and met up with Kelsey, Eric, and Ruby. Before the Engers and Daniel's dad got there some dark clouds showed up and we were met with some seriously intense winds and rain. Everyone buckled down and some people gave up and left--we nearly did. After all that craziness passed, it was a nice cool evening. Pre-fireworks the Beach Boys (two of the original Beach Boys anyways) did a concert which was actually pretty fun. It was really upbeat and everyone really enjoyed it.
The fireworks as usual were amazing. Sophie handled them well. She watched mildly amused for a while--the same way she watches TV--and then she fell asleep.

Bella is going to make an excellent babysitter one day. She always runs up to Sophie and starts making silly faces and noises at here. Sophie smiles and giggles every time. It's quite the routine they have going on.

On the actual Fourth of July we managed to make it to my parent's house for a hot dog bar lunch. We came up with a bunch of different types of hot dogs and toppings, bought really good hot dogs, and made a feast of it.

You can see Sophie's sad little eye and snotty nose, pretty sure she threw up shortly after this.
After that we went home for some much needed rest and then ventured out for a quick little fireworks show at Daniel's parent's house.

Kira, Bella, and Hannah showed us their love of Pop-Its and sparklers. Every time after Daniel lit a firework Bella would yell, "Again!"

Towards the end of our fireworks show I suggested that Daniel light the last five or so off simultaneously because Sophie and I were just plain done hanging out outside and needed to get to bed. It actually turned out to be really cool. I think I prefer at home fireworks that way--its so much faster too.

So now we're all sick--sitting at home watching lots of movies and waiting for all this loveliness to pass.
