Sophie's Foxy Hair

In reading past posts, I find that whenever I update about Sophie I tend to comment on her hair. Who knows if I would do this if she were a boy, but it sounds like I am constantly concerned with the state of her hair. I have to chuckle when I read about her "fantastic hair" at six months old which was nothing more than patchy fuzz. I guess it's all relative to the hair should could have, which could be none. Anyways, I love this kid's hair. Her brown locks are giving way to bright blonde roots and in the summer sun it creates an array of color (reds, blondes, and browns) and highlights people pay good money for. I decided it resembles the tail of a fox. We get lots of comments, which mean nothing to Sophie, but make us proud parents. Silly, I know, but she's beautiful.

Sophie is officially eighteen months now, hooray! I dressed her up cute to take pictures, but she was a bit of a grump that day (more teeth I suspect). She's quite the active thing so taking pictures require a team which I had none. So I got pictures of her playing with my phone and some silly bath tub smiles.
Things our little mini person likes to say:
Hi, Bye
Go, go!
Shooooes!
Momma, Dadda
Boom! (Accompanied with a high five)
Thank you, Please (She's extremely polite)
and
a whole zoo full of animal noises, everything from a crocodile, elephant, gorilla, to a chick, sheep, and most recently a rooster--which is to die for cute. I think she knows more noises than words. She loves the outdoors more than anything and is learning how to get properly dirty in the process.

She loves bike rides

In other news, our house is awesome. I got called into the nursery at church. I have mixed emotions because I love nursery and of course, I love playing with Sophie, but she's been doing so well in there independently. I love peeking through the window and watching her have so much fun. I love that she has time to play without me and with her little friends. The class is small, only five little girls, so we will have lots of fun. Also, I've started freelance writing for dirt cheap. So if my posts sound weird then I'm still in article mode. It's not loads of money, but it's fun to research and write on a variety of topics. I have a 100% success rate thus far which makes me feel like I'm pretty amazing.

Fourth of July

Our first Fourth in Boise, and it probably wasn't our favorite. First we drove all the way to my parents' house. Then we went to their tiny town's little parade. It was cute, short, and Sophie was mildly entertained. It was so dang hot here. So hot. Then we swam at my parents' which was amazing. Then we missed all the afternoon activities while Sophie napped. (A necessity for fireworks so we allowed it). Then we drove forty five minutes to a tiny town outside Kuna (500 people tiny). We had heard their fireworks were amazing. They had lots of delicious food vendors which was fun, and whole lot of... colorful people. We probably got there too early, but made the most of it. The fireworks finally rolled around and Sophie thought they were super cool, but then was too tired to do much else than watch. We decided to skip out early since Sophie was spent and I was glad we did. It was a traffic nightmare waiting to happen. We made it out in good time and it was a quick thirty minute drive home. We were a little homesick for Idaho Falls. We missed the river and it's amazing fireworks. Our fireworks didn't have music so it didn't feel all that patriotic. Next year we are just going back to Idaho Falls where the fourth never disappoints.

Random + Bogus Basin

Our first weekend in our new home, Daniel had signed up to do a trail run with YMCA for work up at Bogus Basin (a local ski resort). We've never been there--like most places--and estimated about an hour drive from our house to the starting point of the race. We had no idea how windy those roads were going to be. It was the worst. Tight, quick turns that made even me nauseous. Then all of a sudden I heard Sophie cough and spit up, then throw up, then throw up again, and possibly one more time. I nearly lost it. We were trapped 1/2 way up this mountain, not knowing when the heck we were going to get there. Sophie was crying and I felt so awful. We finally arrived. I had no extra clothes for her (I haven't had to pack extra clothes in forever). We stripped her down and miraculously there was at least a blanket in the back of the car. It was pretty cold up there. We left the throw up covered carseat outside the car. I ran over to watch Daniel start the race. Then I started nosing around for anything to help me clean the car. I found free water bottles and thankfully someone told me there was an actual bathroom with paper towels (not just the port-a-potties). While I rapidly ripped out all the paper towels I could while Sophie stood naked and shoeless outside the bathroom. A couple of moms were in the bathroom and I said that I was just cleaning up unexpected throw up. One of them became my hero when she offered her daughter's extra clothes. I nearly cried. Sophie was so happy to have clothes and be able to run around with all the other kids. It really changed our whole day around. I'm forever grateful to this woman and will now pack extra clothes always.

Daniel enjoyed the run. Although it ended up being over two miles longer than advertised. He was pretty gimpy the next day. I don't know if we will make the drive up there next year (or ever again). Thankfully Sophie slept all the way down the mountain.

We had a little poop leakage just a few days later so she went pant less through Wal-mart. And she threw up again on me at few days after that. It's been fun times for the laundry department.
Sophie has become a finicky little eater. Honestly she eats the best when we go out to eat since I think she assumes that's all she is going to get. She goes back and forth on some foods and stinks at trying new foods. Today she wouldn't eat hardly anything off her plate so we let her out of her chair. Then she demanded to be on my lap. She ended up eating half my dinner (same foods we offered her earlier). It was pretty hilarious watching her eat corn on the cob. Then we did homemade ice cream cones. Which received lots of love.
