Things About Sophie

•  Sophie's favorite toy is Sophie the Giraffe-she goes to TOWN on that squishy toy. Unfortunately (or maybe fortunately) she dropped it while I was holding her and I stepped on it. It no longer squeaks...
• She still doesn't love strangers. She is doing great warming up to family and will smile for pretty much anyone. Although Grandpa Jensen is a little scary with his new Santa beard.

•  Sophie has great hair. Despite having a huge bald spot once in her life, she now has nearly perfectly even hair except for the dozen or so long strands on the top of her head. It sticks straight up in the back. We call it her fuzzy duckling hair.
• She has started this backwards wave thing with her right hand.

•  She smiles and jabbers a lot. And she can blow raspberries for ten minutes straight.
• People say she looks like her daddy. I agree. She has my eyes though.
• She has long fingers and long toes.
• When daddy comes home from work she gets excited and waves both her arms up and down really fast.

•  She slobbers. A lot. Her chin is constantly wet.

Starting Solids

What an adventure! We are slowly but surely experimenting on our child with a variety of tastes and textures. I have a sense that she may end up being a picking eater (where on earth would she get that from?!), but let's hope she proves me wrong. So far we have tried butternut squash, bananas, applesauce, avocado, carrots, and sweet potatoes. By far her favorite was the squash. Bananas and applesauce caused her to shudder---too sweet maybe? And carrots she just blew out of her mouth in one messy raspberry--texture perhaps? Avocados and sweet potatoes went fairly well. We definitely need to keep practicing and increase how much she's eating. Next on the menu: pears and apricots. Right now, I'm focusing on making all her food. I enjoy it and figure it's cheaper. And I still feel involved in her nutrition.

Six Months

 Sophie has started mastering sitting up. It is still a wobbling balancing act, but I think she really likes being able to sit up and it makes for some super cute pictures. They finally finished landscaping our complex and it is so nice not to be living in a dirt pile. Just last weekend Sophie figured out how to roll from her back to her tummy. I was at a baby shower, laid her on the floor, and turned around and then she was on her tummy. She does it constantly now--every single time we lay her on the floor. Most times, once she gets to her tummy she chuckles about it. Apparently its super funny. She actually chuckles a lot. It's pretty dang cute.

Summertime

 Here are just some pictures from June. Sophie and Ruby find each other very interesting. I can't wait until they can play together. I love that so many of my friends have babies too. We just visited our friends Mike and Lara and their little guy Carter is such a cutie. Both he and Ruby are lightweights though, they make Sophie look like a little chub.

 

 Lately I've had to put a bib on Sophie because she is soaking her clothes with slobber. She's quite the fountain.

 We went to Rigby Lake for Daniel's co-worker's daughter's birthday. The water was way too cold for Sophie, but we sat out in the sand for a little while.
