A Fun-Filled Fourth of July Weekend

Man, we packed a lot into a short weekend.

Friday my mom came up to have some dental work done and play for the weekend. Sophie love love loves when grandma comes. Friday night was Erin and Jason's neighborhood firework show. It should be nominated for best neighborhood show in the country. It's seriously impressive. My mom was a little freaked out how close we were to the fireworks. We were getting hit by pieces from the fireworks, but it was super fun. Both Sophie and Emery fell asleep before the fireworks started. We forced Sophie awake. She was grumpy until she realized what was going on. She absolutely loved it. Emery did as well as any baby could and just stared at the sky. Such a fun night and an easy drive home.

Saturday we went out for lunch and mostly hung out at home. We cooked up a yummy dinner and did s'mores out back. Our neighborhood fireworks party was that night. We walked down the street with our next door neighbors. While this show was tiny compared to the show the night before, it was still super fun. Sophie loved watching the fireworks with Kougar and they chose some really fun fireworks.

Monday was the actual fourth and we decided to drive up to Grand Teton National Park and do a little hike around Jenny Lake with our friends Andy and Darcie. I was hesitant to hike with two little, little kids, but they both did remarkably well. Sophie freaked out about riding in the hiking backpack so she had to walk or ride on Daniel's shoulders for the two hours we hiked. Emery did great in the Ergo and slept most of it. Once you hike half the lake they have a boat that ferries people back and forth. At that point Emery had woken up and I was adamant that I wasn't walking another two hours back. So we paid the silly price for a 5 minute boat ride and took a quick little cruise at the base of the Tetons. It really is some beautiful country out there and I'm always happy when we spend time in such a gorgeous area. We picked an awesome local joint for dinner and drove home. We opted out of trying to make it down to the river for fireworks, but after the girls were in bed I sat on the front porch and watched some beautiful fireworks from some neighbors down the street and a few streets over.  Daniel joined me and played some patriotic music off his phone. I couldn't stop laughing, but it was a beautiful day.
