A summertime classic! After the fourth we started up swim lessons at the Ammon Pool. The Enger cousins all signed up for the same session so we all went together. Sophie was extremely enthusiastic the first day. She always seemed to do a good job in class, but would wander away occasionally when it wasn't her turn. She was bit of a chicken when it came to putting her head under water or jumping off the ledge, but she was always a good sport and looked like she was having fun. Somehow we landed with cooler weather again this year and lessons got cancelled one day. Daniel took her to the Aquatic Center to practice. The real improvement came on the last day of class when all of a sudden Sophie was dunking her head underneath the water repeatedly. I was kind of freaking out. I was so surprised! (I barely can do that) It was like it clicked and she was loving it. On the last day of class they get the chance to jump off the diving board. Sophie was so brave and decided she didn't even need a lifejacket. She was the first kid up the ladder to the diving board and walked until the handrails ended and then tried to crawl. Then her teacher came and walked to the edge--she got a little nervous then--but her teacher just dropped her off the edge. When she came out of the water she was beaming! She just loved it. She almost did it again, but didn't. We went swimming at the Ammon Pool for fun the other day and she's turning into a great little fish. We are going to do another round of lessons just to keep up skills up. {And poor Kira only got to do half the lessons before she got stitches on her finger and couldn't swim} Here's hoping Sophie continues to be a better swimmer than me!
